Who what where why when…doesn’t love poetry, eh? Well, not everybody does.
I do. Kim and Jennifer do. Elsie, Jill, and Marlia do. Gifted masters such as Al Young does~and Michael McClure, and Sam Hamill. I’ve written a number of poems by now, with grounded or exotic~edgy or lyrical sensibilities. The more I learn, the more I see to develop, “extract”, and keep honing authentic voice.
Well, here’s one fun line from an email recently sent to a poet friend, “Thanks for your hopscotch geisha trippin’ boddhisatva hair clippin’ sew button flower tootin’ cake bake swirl.”
‘Round the bend now to published articles which include writing (& photography) for The Journal of The San Juan Islands, poetry published in Ojai, California periodical “Sharing News”, next an article on “Etching” for an Oregonian quarterly publication; and more recently, work published in the online literary magazine “SHARK REEF”, www.sharkreef.org~ Issue 15, October 2009~ “Winter very quick poem”. You may search their archives for my name to find visual work~paintings & photography, in earlier editions.
One Chapbook published to date: “Island Passages” sepia photography & poetry. Years ago I wrote short comedy sketches for a syndicated cartoonist~and loved coloring the Sunday cartoons for publication. Recently wrote an improv Irish folk tune for some fine fiddler friends playing music in a local cafe.
My writing comes from places of inspiration, depth, quickness, and or humor~often with a unique point of view. I love metaphor, and language, and of course art education~myth/story, the beauty of nature~the cosmic~thinking outside the well worn box~developing ideas for creative projects or kindred purposes~as in aspects of our environment or within general areas of human understanding or experience. If you are seeking an article or poetry for your inspired magazine, song lyrics ~tunes, or need someone to name all those colors in your new environmental paint company’s color charts or describe images of flowers in that revised garden coffee table book, perhaps developing characters for a screen play~or even directing (ha!)~someone has to tell these characters what to do!
“Artistic arenas flow~crafted, like rivers~meandering tributaries, creating pathways, painted chiseled letters, nouns and verbs, words changing form like brushwork~combing sage, leaf mold, feathered edges along synapse contoured lines. Sunrise, muse highway, nexus~songbirds perched branch blossom & bud~cinnamon sky, like a domed seashell, nature’s (seriate) symphony.”
Would love to set more of my poetry to music, the lyrical voice adds much to the dimension.
