“PASTEL COUNTRYSIDE” The natural world, rich beauty, sense of place, peaceful.

May 2015 I participated in Susan Ogilvie’s wonderful Pastel Workshop to learn more about representing the “visual world”, the one we see, Outside. I worked on this pastel toward the end of the Workshop and continued in my Studio over the course of the month. Once I started “correcting” the photograph~rather than the pastel, I knew the interfacing was close enough! I elected to make a few changes along the bottom panel of the “picture plane” for interest.

This image is also a Photograph, which I “clicked”  while on a California (moving) train ride. Beautiful countryside, rural farmland filled with poetic imagery.

After years as an abstract painter, and printmaker; something new began~ an inquiry & fascination with the study of values and color relationships in pastel. I work in a sensitive manner. Each piece is a true exploration.

I currently accept some commissions for 8×10~9×12″ Pastels created on UART paper, of your beautiful landscape. My pastels range from a softer feel, to more pronounced  mark making.
